In 1991, the Spanish government founded this institute with the aim of promoting Spanish language and spreading Spanish culture, as well as the culture of the countries where Spanish is official language. The main institution is located in Madrid, the birthplace of writer Miguel de Cervantes. Representative office in Belgrade is one of 70 centers spread across five continents.
