Spasovdan (celebration of the Ascension) became again the Patronal Feast of the city of Belgrade in 1993. Then, after 46 years, there was a ceremonial walk (liturgical procession) led by His Holiness Patriarch Pavle (Paul). This year, for the first time, the liturgical procession will carry the Relics of Despot Stefan, and primary school pupils from Palilula and Cukarica will take part in it.

The liturgical procession starts in front of the Church of the Ascension in Admirala Geprata Street on 25th of May at 11 o`clock. It continues in Kneza Milosa Street, Kralja Milana Street, Terazije, Kneza Sime Markovica Street, Pop Lukina Street, Kraljice Natalije Street and Dobrinjska Street until it comes back to the start point at 2 pm. These streets will be closed to vehicle traffic.

We remind that Serbian Orthodox Church celebrates the Ascension every year 40 days after the Easter. Celebrating represents a memory of all significant historical events when the capital of Serbia was destroyed and rebuilt.
