Borca area is situated on the left bank of the Danube river, west from the road that leads from Belgrade to Zrenjanin. It is only six kilometers from Belgrade. In the historical documents, Borca was mentioned in 1456 as part of Sremska Zupanija, Barczi. In some documents from the XVI century, Borca has been registered as Borca Island. Borca was linked to Belgrade by ferry across the Danube river, so the connection between Belgrade and Timisoara was maintained. Borca is also mentioned in Turkey and Austria conflicts about the Belgrade. It came under Austria in 1717 and remained that way until 1918. In that period for the inhabitants of Borca was difficult to obtain approval for opening schools in the Serbian language and buildnig the church. Austrian authorities seemed to force children to attend German and Hungarian schools. The church was built in 1799. School eventually was built after the church at the turn of the XVIII to the XIX century.

Interwoven with numerous canals Borca today resembles an island near the metropolis.
