Since the beginning of a new era when Singidunum (Belgrade) was formed, Celtic and Illyrian tribes based their settlements upstream along the Mirijevo creek. There are old coins and remains of the house of that time testifying to the existance of the settlement. Mirijevo, part of Zvezdara, has a very long and meaningful history.

Until the 70s of the last century, Mirijevo was separated village, outside the urban area of Belgrade. Mirijevo became the local community within the city in 1971 due to the expanding of Belgrade. There was a construction of new residential areas and a great population growth.

The present name was established in the beginning of the 19th century. The origin of the name is uncertain because there are several assumptions. According to the most commonly mentioned, the name is associated with the notion of peace. Allegedly in Mirijevo was concluded an agreement between the Turks and the Austrians with the words: "here is the peace". The name may derive from the Turkish word "Miri" which means the tax that the peasants had to pay.
