During the reign of Singidunum (the old name of Belgrade), Romans built summer houses and vineyard on a hill above the Danube river. This area is now known as Visnjicka Banja. It is located six kilometers from Belgrade. Almost four decades ago, on the slopes above the Danube river, began construction of an elite estate. The buildings of red brick in the new settlement, huge windows overlooking to the Danube river, entice new residents to Visnjicka Banja. In the middle of the settlement there used to be natural fissure called "Dubodolin" over 35 meters deep. Today, at that site there is a park and sports fields. Name "Banja" refers to the source of healing sulfur waters that are at the foot of the hill. This healing water was well known to the Romans, who made the first baths at this area.
