Vojvoda Vuk Park

It belongs to the smaller city parks in Belgrade, but it does not lack charm. It is also known as Park Prolece, Park kod Palasa (Park at Palace) and Park Toplicin venac. It houses the monument to Duke Vuk and Banatska cesma (the Banat fountain), a summer stage and a children's playground. The entire park is covered by free internet. For many, the favorite city square has numerous benches, bicycle stops and rich greenery.

This is one of the oldest parks about which there are records even before the First World War. The monument to Duke Vuk was erected in 1936 and is the work of Djordje Jovanovic. The duke's real name is Vojin Popovic and he is one of the bravest and most famous commanders of the Serbian army. He took part in the Balkan Wars, the Battle for Macedonia, but also in the First World War.

Under the park there are archaeological treasures from the Roman Singidunum era and it is treated as an archaeological reserve. The area occupied by the park once housed a bastion on Sanac, and during the reign of Prince Milos Obrenovic, the city expanded from here. The position of the surrounding streets and the square itself have retained the shape that still defines the park today.

According to some traditions, it was in this park that Gavrilo Princip, during a conversation on a bench with Nedeljko Cabinovic, presented his plan to assassinate Franz Ferdinand.
