The tavern under the hill Kamenjak was the last stop at the entrance to the city for travellers and merchants who were coming to Belgrade from Sabac, Valjevo and Obrenovac. Zarkovo municipality opened this, later well-known rest area in 1842, and the first one to lease it was Stojko "Cukar" Jankovic from Belgrade. It is not sure whether the tavern got its name "Cukarova" after its owner or after the position under the hill (cuka in Serbian). Later, the whole area was called Cukarica after the name of this tavern.

The Topcider river, racetrack, Ada Ciganlija beach and Kosutnjak are the most distinctive oasis of Cukarica where all Belgraders willingly go.
