The Belgrade International Theater Festival - Bitef will be held this year from 22nd September to 30th September at several locations: Bitef Theater, Sava Center, National Theater - Great scene and Rasa Plaovic scene, Yugoslav Drama Theater - Ljuba Tadic scene and Atelje 212 - Mira Trailovic scene. The nine-day epic journey will host numerous artists from Germany, Switzerland, Iran, Slovenia, Great Britain, Belgium and Serbia. Tickets for the Bitef festival are available at the Bitef theater box office located at the Terazije Theater at the price of 1.700 up to 2.500 dinars.
The Mount Olympus play: to the glory of the cult of tragedy - a 24 hours performance opens the festival at the Sava Center on 23rd September from 18:00 and is the most important event to mark the Bitef 2017. Jan Fabre from Belgium is the director of the fascinating performance that was declared the play of the greatest importance created in the last few decades by professional critics. The theme is Greek mythology created through epochs, recorded in Homer's epics and the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides, performed by thirty actors and dancers through a highly demanding physical and spiritual performance. The spectacular theater play dominantly presents Dionysus' cult in its contemporary form, with all its elements that are equally beautiful and exciting, but also terrifying, seductive and dangerous. Overall, the play that lasts for 24 hours, which causes very strong emotions and an unusual experience, is magnificent ode to life. The Bitef Festival has existed since 1967, and it was founded at the insistence of Mira Trailovic and Jovan Cirilov. With each new edition, it grew up and developed into one of the world's most important theater festivals. The Belgrade City Assembly is the founder of this eminent cultural event, while Bitef Theater is responsible for production and organization.
