The Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade - the grand opening

A magnificent event of great importance for the arts and culture of Serbia will be followed by a multimedia programme that will last 168 hours without interruption

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade opens on 20th October at 10:00 am, after 10 years of renovation. The opening ceremony will last 7 days and 7 nights, and a large exhibition Sequences is organized for the audience. The art of Yugoslavia and Serbia from the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art. During the ceremonial opening, at any time, the entry will be free. On the same date, 52 years ago, the museum opened its doors to visitors for the first time.

A quality music programme is organized. In the period from 20th to 27th October, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra will perform with conductors: Heinz Karl Gruber and Gabriel Feltz and soprano, Branislava Podrumac. The Belgrade Dance Festival and the Museum of Contemporary Art bring choreographer Jakopo Godani to Belgrade who will perform with the dancers from Dresden Frankfurt Dance together with ballet dancers from Serbia. Plateau in front of the museum will be a stage for the jazz quartet Four Plus and DJs Sonja Pavlica and Boban Petroni. A special programme is announced for the youngest audience.


Sequences. The art of Yugoslavia and Serbia from the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art

The exhibition presents more than 300 works that include contemporary art from the beginning of the 20th century to the present, and the main goal is to reaffirm the collection of the museum through a new framework for presenting and understanding art from our areas. The author is Dejan Sretenovic, and the curators are Misela Blanusa and Zoran Eric, while Andrej Dolinka is responsible for graphic design. It was created as a unique whole, composed of 18 sequences that show the development of art in Serbia and Yugoslavia, through a century. As a chronologically arranged series, it presents the active presence of various art periods, poetics, thematic kinship and linguistics, connects different perceptions of the modern world and contemporary art. A wide theme and rich setting are turned to an audience of different ages.
