Vasilije Mokranjac Fest

The premiere festival dedicated to the work and creation of one of the best Serbian composers of classical music

The musical event "Vasilije Mokranjac Fest" is held from 22nd to 24th November. The official start is scheduled for 18:00 at the SANU Gallery of Science and Technology. The concert "Vasilije Mokranjac in the performance of young pianists" will feature some of the most important composer's works such as Etida, Sest igara, Sonata Romantics and Fragmenti in the performance of Olga Petrovic, Tijana Cerovic, Ksenija Veljovic, Milica Zakic, Katarina Mancic and Kosta Knezevic.

The programme continues the next day, on 23rd November from 19:00, in the "Artget" Gallery of the Cultural Center of Belgrade. "Round table on the theme of the creation of Vasilije Mokranjac" will gather academics Dimitrije Stefanovic, Dejan Despic and Svetislav Bozic, and numerous guests will give their opinion as well. For the end of the debut event, a gala concert is organized in the ceremonial hall of the City Assembly. Pianists Vedrana Subotic, Jelena Djajic Levajac, Ivana Medic, Rita Kinka and Biljana Gorunovic, pianists Ratimir Martinovic and Vladimir Gligoric, Sandra Belic (violoncello) and Miroslav Pavlovic on the violin will play on 24th November from 19:00.


Vasilije Mokranjac (1923-1984) left an indelible mark in Serbian classical music. He is considered to be a prominent artist in the field of piano, symphonic, applied and film music. He graduated from the Music Academy in Belgrade, piano department, and later became a full-time professor at this faculty. He was a professor at music schools "Mokranjac" and "Josif Marinkovic", the first man of the Association of Composers of Serbia and a regular member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. A rich career and incredible talent have been honored with prestigious awards dozens of times. The nephew of the famous composer Stevan Stojanovic Mokranjac and the son of Jovan Mokranjac left behind his wife Olga and daughter Aleksandra, who founded the foundation "Vasilije Mokranjac".
