Dortjol Festival

Festival, organized for the first time, tends to be a traditional gathering of quality, diverse music and cultural exchange in new, interesting form

The first Dortjol Festival takes place in Belgrade from 27th June to 1st July. Diverse styles of jazz, ethno and classical music will present world-renowned artists from Serbia, Georgia, Greece, Germany, Italy, Spain, New Zealand and Portugal. Total of 27 musicians will perform at premiere festival that takes place at several locations - "Mihajlo Misa Blam" jazz club, KC Grad and Dorcol National Theatre.

Idea of the festival is not just presenting music names through concerts, but meeting foreign artists with the history, the culture and people of Serbia. Cultural exchange will happen through seven live performances during three days. What is special about this manifestation are these encounters that will create authentic programme of great importance for connecting different nationalities with quality music.


Dortjol Festival was founded in partnership with Abarid Foundation, Supermarket concept store, Supermarket deli, Goethe Institute, Balkan Academy for Music, Yachting club "Kej" and Prototype. Set of tickets at the price of 1.500 dinars and single tickets at the price of 300 dinars are available at Supemarket concept store.

The performance of Greek artist of younger generation, Thimios Atzakas, opens the festival on theme night "Smell of music". Programme continues with premiere of "Love cabaret", a specific musical and stage performance of local artists. A maestro for incense and fragrant plants, Fabio Dorendo from Italy will enhance both concerts with appropriate aromas. Belgrade audience will have the opportunity for the first time to experience concert events with hearing, sight and smell sense. The following day of the festival brings concerts of traditional music of Georgia. At the same night, a trumpet orchestra without trumpet performs. Agios Lavrentios Brass Band consists of eight jazz saxophonists, two percussionists from five countries and Serbia.

The first day of July is reserved for fantastic form of fado music. Lula Pena, artist of special voice and specific way of playing the guitar brings an authentic form of fado that audience in Belgrade haven`t had the opportunity to hear. Dortjol Festival ends with performance of Belgrade-Berlin Dub Connection band. Powerful groove created with combination of styles from afrobeat to reggae, closes this premiere of international gathering of quality music and merging different cultures and nations.


The art director of the festival is Hayden Chisholm, worldwide known saxophonist, composer and multi-instrumentalist. He comes from New Zealand, but he currently lives in Belgrade. Awarded artist and performer is best known for his jazz, improvised and contemporary classical music. During his career, Hayden has released more than 30 albums, and participated in 50 more in collaboration with other artists. Beside music, he was director of short film "Sisiphus Runs". Proud owner of many awards for his work is an ardent lover of racing marathons.
