Sweet Summer Soul: MaraQYa vs Bege Fank

An interesting combination of excellent musicians and famous Belgrade DJ for Friday in different rhythm

A party organized by the Cultural Center Grad on Friday, 7th July starts at 21:00 and lasts until 02:00. A kind of fusion of quality live music and DJ showed itself like a true match for great fun. On this Friday, the famous garden of the Cultural Center Grad will be a club with great music under the open sky in the zone of the best time in the center of the city happenings, favourite Savamala. The price of the ticket is 300 dinars until the midnight, and after midnight is 200 dinars.


MaraQYa is a music band from Belgrade, founded in 2008. Music genre they prefer is soul, neo soul, r&b, funk and hip hop. Their career has been marked by two albums so far: Savrsen dan (Perfect day) from 2010 and Soul i biber (Soul and pepper) from 2015. "Luda je" song brought it the first place at local Jelen top chart, and hit "Govor tela" was first at MTV Domacica. Both relevant music charts have had songs "U mojoj sobi je mrak", "Kada te vidim" and "Stay down" in the top 5. Since the beginning of band`s work, it has preferred collaboration with DJs. So far, Struka, Gru, Toni Zen and Bege Fank were guests in their projects. Permanent members of the band are: Marko Vlahovic (vocals), Andrej Martinovic (keyboard), Dusan Damjanovic (drums), Milos Moka Stanojevic (trumpet), Ognjen Gotovcevic (saxophone) and Stefan Stehlik (guitar).


Bege Fank has been into music since the middle of the 90s. He represented himself as DJ Are until 2004, and in that period he was one of the leading DJs who play jungle & drum'n'bass. His first appearance at the Exit Festival was in 2003. He changed his artistic name into Lou Benny in 2009 and he started copyright and vocal work. He achieved his first success with the band Sevdah Baby which he gave pure funk sound. From 2010 and until the end of 2012, he performed as a party MC/hypeman at leading festivals and major clubs throughout the region, most notably as a standard member of the above mentioned band, but also as a support, co-author and performer in MaraQYa and Zemlja gruva bands. Finally, in 2013, he started representing himself as Bege Fank. Together with the famous local DJ BKO, he started the first contemporary authentic Balkan genre of hip hop music, called Balkan Bombass. Recognizable by Booty Shake/Twerk songs that are derived from "cocek" rhythms of trumpets from Serbia, they are conquering large cities in the country, the former Yugoslav countries and beyond.
