World Music Day at Kolarac Endowment

Kolarac Endowment organizes concerts, film screenings and an exhibition in honor of World Music Day that is celebrated on 21st June

Ilija M. Kolarac Endowment celebrates World Music Day on 21st June with quality music programme lasting from 18:00 to 23:00 when the visitors will have the opportunity to see expertly guided exhibition "Sound World". Ernest So, a pianist from Hong Kong, will open the manifestation with performance at Music Gallery at 18:00.

World Music Day was established 35 years ago, on the initiative of Jack Lang, French Minister of Culture. Since then, World Music Day has been celebrated on 21st June every year. Meeting the great day of music, movie theatre at Ilija M. Kolarac Endowment will show chosen motion pictures on 19th and 20th June. "Art cinema Kolarac" and European feature documentary film festival "Magnificent Seven" have prepared three films for movie lovers, and tickets are available at the box office of Kolarac Endowment at the price of 300 dinars.


Ernest So was born in 1978, and he currently lives in London. He won the Best Performer Award and later the Beethoven Trophy in Singapore in 1995 before attending The Juilliard School in New York. So is an Honorary Professor of Music at Guangxi University and is also a teacher of Music History and a piano instructor at the Music and Drama Institute in Hong Kong. He is famous for devoted charity work. Ernest So will perform works of Gershwin, Kapustin, M.P. Armengol, Tanikawa and Fazil Say inspired by jazz music at the concert named "Whirl and Swirl". Admission is free.


Ensamble "Sensartika" consisting of Sonja Kalajic (violin, saw, castanets), Darko Armenski (clarinet and saxophone) and Milos Maric (guitar) will hold a free concert at Kolarac Hall at 19:30. "Sound World" exhibition, organized for the third time within project "Acoustic Museum", will show the phenomenon of sound, its mysterious and rich world through interactive showpieces from the process of physical generating to music experience in concert halls. Software solutions will enable visitors to meet the roles of musical instruments of an ensemble in process of creating music by adding or subtracting instruments in the ensemble, as well as to check their intonation and the quality of hearing by singing major scale. The exhibition is scheduled for 19:30 at Kolarac Hall, and admission is free.


The celebration of World Music Day at Kolarac ends with a performance of Percussion Quintet "Elemental Culture Collective". The closing event is scheduled for 21:00 at Concert Hall. Ticket price is 500 dinars. The Quintet consists of Svet Stoyanov from Bulgaria, Dmitrii Nilov from Russia, Kiril Angelov from Bulgaria, Ksenija Komljenovic from Serbia and Peter White from the USA.
