The flattering title of the most popular touristic destination belongs to Belgrade. The Shanghai World Travel Fair SWTF in Shanghai took place for the 14th time from Thursday, 20th April to Sunday, 23rd April 2017 and 53 countries and over 750 exhibitors took part in it. One of the most important events in tourism in China has been visited by over 50.000 people this year.
Belgrade won the prestigious first place based on votes of visitors and Chinese touristic agencies. The first place prize was given to the Mayor of Belgrade who said on that occasion that that award had been confirmation of all the efforts. According to statistical data, a the number of Chinese tourists has been doubled in the first trimester of this year unlike the same period last year. Tourist Organization of Belgrade has a special department for Chinese speaking visitors, and there are info panels all over the city in Chinese. Also, an Internet presentation about Belgrade in Chinese was announced.
It is well-known that residents of China respect the character and work of legendary Velimir Bata Zivojinovic and that they are ardent fans of the best tennis players. The outcome of this year`s Travel Fair showed their affection for Belgrade and Serbian people. Since Serbia is the only country in Europe that has visa-free regime with China, direct flights between Belgrade and Beijing are expected to be established soon. It would be of great importance for Serbian tourism.
